Justin Feldkamp reports that Edinson Volquez began his journey back to the Reds last night with his first minor league rehab start. He tossed 44 pitches over 3 IP and gave up 0 R on 2 H and 0 BB with 3 K. “His fastball speed consistently reached 92-95 miles per hour with his top speed clocked at 96 mph.” Volquez stated that he expects to make “two starts in High-A, two in Double-A and two in Triple-A.”

What a great problem for the Reds to have once he is ready in figuring out who will make up the starting rotation. You can never have too much pitching.

Note also that LH reliever Bill Bray is rehabbing in A+ Lynchburg also. He’s made four scoreless appearances thus far, tossing 4.1 IP allowing 0 R on 1 H and 2 BB with 9 K. It would be nice to get him back to help bolster the bullpen also. I’m sure Arthur Rhodes would welcome his return.
