Let’s recap tonight’s titanic struggle…

Final

Royals 5

Reds 11

WP: Cueto (6-1)

LP: Bannister (6-4)

POSITIVES

– Oh Jonny, Oh Jonny, Oh Jonny!  Gomes hit two 3-run blasts to single handedly put the Reds in front.  Gomes would end the game 2-3 with 2 HBP and 6 RBI.  Gomes is batting .307/.372/.547!

– Brandon Phillips went 3-4 with an RBI and he scored three runs.  Phillips is now batting a cool .311/371/.488 on the season.

– Jay Bruce and Scott Rolen also had two hits each.  Rolen also drew a walk and has an OPS of .974!  WOW!

– Arthur Rhodes scoreless streak continues on…

– TOiS*

NEGATIVES

– Johnny Cueto was less than outstanding, at least in the 2nd inning.  Cueto allowed five hits and walked four batters.  All five runs Cueto allowed scored in the 2nd inning after the Reds had given him a 4-0 lead after the 1st inning.  To Cueto’s credit, he rebounded to at least pitch six innings.

– Orlando Cabrera was a perfect 0-5 tonight at the plate.  Our leadoff batter now has an on-base percentage of .297!

NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS

– Arthur Rhodes was shaky, allowing three hits, but did extend his scoreless innings streak.  Why he was used in a game in which the Reds held a six run lead is beyond me, but Rhodes continues to go right along.

– Logan Ondrusek pitched a scoreless inning in relief.  The big fella has really pitched well in his second tour of duty with the big club thus far.

– The Reds go for another series win tomorrow before a day off.  Just keep winning series fellas!

– With 47 RBI, Jonny Gomes is now the National League leader in RBI.  That can only mean one thing…..

It’s Jonny Gomes SOMBRERO TIME!
