The 2010 MLB Draft is tonight and, as someone mentioned last week, I kinda like the fact that we haven’t been obsessing about the draft. We have other concerns right now.
At any rate, the Reds have the 12th pick in the first round. Reports are that the Reds are likely to select a college arm in the first round, and this mock draft over at MLB.com suggests the same thing. I’d be on board with that; that strategy has borne fruit recently. That mock draft has the Reds selecting Brett Eibner, a right-hander from the University of Arkansas.
There is a tantalizing note, however, suggesting that Yasmani Grandal, a catcher from the University of Miami, might slip to the Reds because of his bonus demands. I’m not particularly excited about that possibility (I think he’s quite possibly overrated), despite the fact that the Reds really could use some catching in the organization.
Any thoughts on the draft? We’ll be updating here and in the game thread with the Reds picks as the night progresses.
UPDATE: Reds select C Yasmani Grandal (University of Miami) with the 12th pick in the first round. I’m not particularly happy with this pick.
More soon.
