Let’s recap today’s titanic struggle….

FINAL (11 innings)
Cincinnati 5
Washington 4
WP: Cordero (2-3)
LP: Slaten (2-1)
S: Masset (1)
BOX SCORE

POSITIVES
–Jonny Gomes and Scott Rolen came through huge in the ninth, knocking in the three runs on a double by Gomes (scoring Drew Stubbs, who doubled) and a homer by Rolen. Just awesome stuff. Too bad Francisco Cordero screwed it up.

–Then, after CoCo blew the save, Jay Bruce, Laynce Nix, and Stubbs came through to put the Reds ahead 5-4 in the top of the tenth.

–Bronson Arroyo was very good today, going eight strong innings, giving up two runs on six hits, striking out five and walking just one. Arroyo also went 2-2 at the plate. The Reds must have the best hitting pitchers in the league.

–Laynce Nix and Stubbs each went 3-5.

NEGATIVES
–I have tired of CoCo’s act. Another blown save. He’s dead to me.

–Nick Masset got the save, but he pitched poorly. Good grief, nothing is ever easy with this Reds bullpen.

NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
–Never say die, Reds.

–A series win and a .500 road trip. I’ll take it. Now back to Cincinnati to face the Giants.
