It is becoming increasingly likely that the Reds will add an arm to the bullpen before tonight’s game in St. Louis. My prediction is that Carlos Fisher will be demoted and Jared Burton will be recalled (although the correct move would be to designate Mike Lincoln for assignment). From John Fay:

Immediately after Monday’s game, general manager Walt Jocketty, manager Dusty Baker and pitching coach Bryan Price met.

The topic of discussion had to be getting help for the bullpen, which is equal parts tired and ineffective.

Baker said before the meeting that adding an arm for Tuesday night’s game is a possibility.

“I only had two fresh arms today,” Baker said. “I was hoping the (rain) delay didn’t go any further. I didn’t know how I was going to mix and match another five or six innings.”

I want to know why Dusty can’t manage his bullpen effectively. He has seven pitchers out there, yet Dusty is always whining that X number of pitchers aren’t available on a given day.

Perhaps they should send Paul Janish to AAA, since Dusty refuses to put him in a game, and bring up an 8th reliever. Would that be enough pitchers for Baker to stop complaining?
