Let’s recap today’s titanic struggle….
FINAL — 11 innings
New York (NL) 2
WP: Masset (3-1)
LP: Acosta (1-1)
–That’s the way to begin a homestand! Laynce Nix gets a pinch-hit homer to win the game in the bottom of the eleventh. Exciting stuff.
–Nick Freakin’ Masset. Masset tossed two innings of scoreless baseball when the Reds needed it most, allowing a couple of hits and striking out three (while walking none). Where did that come from?
–Orlando Cabrera got on base four times, 2-3 with two walks. Outstanding. Drew Stubbs led off the bottom of the first with a homer; Joey Votto had a couple of hits.
–Another good outing by Mike Lincoln…but Arthur Rhodes IS THE MAN.
–Another excellent start by Mike Leake. Six innings, one earned run on four hits, four strikeouts, one walk. His ERA is now 2.94. Leake deserved better than a no decision. Unfortunately:
–Jonny Gomes stinks right now. He went 0-5 tonight, and his numbers dropped to .197/.233/.333.
–Miserable error by Drew Stubbs in CF tonight. We won’t see many of those in his career, I’d bet…but I can’t help but notice that Stubbs has made a number of mental errors this year. Surprising.
–Really, a pretty entertaining baseball game from beginning to end.
–Chris Heisey went 0-5 in his major league debut. The interview with Heisey before the game was great, though. The kid was pumped up.
–Back to .500. I’ll take it.
–I’m working on a Nix sombrero right now. Until then, enjoy Mike Leake!
