I was updating the Draft Tracker and came upon the stats of Brandon Waring and Justin Turner, who were both traded to Baltimore with Ryan Freel in the deal that brought the Reds Ramon Hernandez.
I was looking at Waring’s stats:
[table id=21 /]
Then I looked a Yonder Alonso’s stats:
[table id=22 /]
Yonder’s a year younger, but his numbers aren’t much better..and he’s already on the 40 man and MUCH more expensive. In addition, Turner is a borderline major leaguer right now.
I suppose this is somewhat unfair; I guess I’m just curious as to what people make of the comparison of Waring and Alonso’s numbers. (I was pretty surprised when I looked at them). Plus, when you compare the two, you have to take into consideration some of the other factors that could make Alonso a roster problem (next year?). Especially when you factor in giving away Turner and the questionable value of Hernandez (and his cost).
What do you think? I just thought it was interesting and might be worthy of some discussion.
