Remember how everyone was talking about Jay Bruce’s bad luck in the first week of the season? He was hitting a lot of balls hard, but couldn’t catch a break.
Well, Bruce’s BABIP is still forty points below average, at .260 (last year, you may recall, it was an astounding .221; the kid’s unlucky), but after the first six games of the season, Bruce’s production has been great. How about these numbers:
Batting average: .306
On-base percentage: .397
Slugging percentage: .592
OPS: .989
Add his superb defense, outstanding baserunning, and just his general hustle, and you have a player that is going to be fun to watch for the next few years.
