Rob Neyer of espn.com has written about the players’ side of baseball business on his blog. Neyer’s comments are partly in response to Orlando Hudson’s charge of racism, but they also come at a time when Forbes Magazine has published its annual review of baseball finance.
The Reds are reaching a crossroads on a few players, too. Aaron Harang, Bronson Arroyo, Francisco Cordero, Brandon Phillips, and Scott Rolen stretch the Reds’ payroll. But, is the payroll being stretched, or do we just need to reallocate our resources? Dusty Baker is one of the highest paid managers in baseball. Are we getting our money’s worth? Do we need to spend more or just more wisely? For what positions should we be spending?
