I thought it’d be interesting to see what you think the Reds need to do in order for Dusty to hang onto his job in 2011? Take our latest poll (see the left column).

About The Author

I've been a Reds fan since the late '60's, with my luck of being able to attend plenty of games at Riverfront during the BRM era. I was sitting in the Green Seats in the OF when Pete came home in '84 and was in the Red seats when Glenn Braggs reached over the fence in '90 to beat the Pirates. I have had many favorites from Jim Maloney to Johnny Bench, Barry Larkin, Adam Dunn, and Jay Bruce.

I’m not a real big Dusty fan,and I really don’t think the Reds can go very far with him.He may have a winning season eventually, but that may be the top.
The Reds need some fresh faces, some new blood in the mix, then, maybe one day, they can return to glory!

Given the miserable previous decade, I think Baker will be back if the Reds post a winning record. I’m definitely not positive on that, though, since Jocketty may want to find his own man.

I voted make the playoffs (and have a good showing). I think Reds management really wants fans to support the team…and another losing season means fans will be clammoring for change. As such, the easiest change to make is almost always to fire the manager, whether deserved or not (and that’s a debate for another day I suppose).

The trouble is that Dusty and Walt may not be a workable unit they need to think what is best for them as a team Valentine is available and their is a potential great gm on staff Mr. Miller.

Another question is how bad do the Reds have to be for Baker to be sent packing before the season ends.

That’s a scary question, Y-City. As much as some of us might wish for part B, I really don’t want to suffer through part A (again). 😯

I don’t think Dusty is back short of winning the pennant. I don’t think he’s a Jocketty kinda guy. I look for Jocketty to bring in someone with a St. Louis connection.

How about a poll asking what it would take for you to WANT Dusty back. For me, I fear that BC will extend him if he posts a winning record, but I personally wouldn’t even want him back if he won the world series for us. With arms like Cueto, Bailey, Leake, Chapman, and Wood working their way up towards Cincy, the sooner that Dusty can be shown the door, the better.

How about this…open the season 5-15…Dusty gets the axe. His replacement benches Gomes (who Dusty will start every day) and calls up Heisey. Reds turn the season around and win 83 of their last 142 games and finish the season 88-74 with the Wild Card in hand. That is my dream scenario.

@coltholt: I like it. But I think it will take more than 20 games to unseat Dusty, but I don’t think it would take something as drastic as a .250 winning percentage to do it either.

I’m also not sure if I’m on board with Heisey over Gomes. Let’s see what Heisey’s got first. Heisey is the new guy. He needs to show he’s a better option than Gomes at that level. So far this spring (and obviously it’s early), neither have impressed. Otherwise, yeah. I think you’ll find a lot of backers here.
