It is time once again to vote for Joe Nuxhall as a candidate for the 2010 Ford C. Frick award.

The final ballot will consist of the top 3 candidates receiving votes from fans, plus 7 candidates nominated by the Hall of Fame research team. A 20-member panel, consisting of 15 living Ford C. Frick award winners and 5 historians/veteran media members, will select the award winner from those 10 candidates.

Electors are asked to base their selections on four criteria: (1) longevity; (2) continuity with a club; (3) honors, including awards and national assignments, such as the World Series and All Star-Games; and (4) popularity with the fans.

Thanks to everyone out there in Redleg Nation, Nuxhall has received the most fan votes in each of the past two seasons. I think Joe exceeds the criteria for winning this award, and I hope this is the year that he finally wins.

This year voting is being handled through Facebook, and you must have a Facebook account to participate.

Why are they not using a general access website for voting this year? Am I the only one who has an issue with this because I don’t have, nor really desire to create, a Facebook account?

@brublejr: I just read about this and will go vote now. FB is a great way to stay in touch with family and friends and now to vote for Joe.

The past couple of years, fans were allowed to vote once per day for the 30 day voting period. I don’t see any mention of that this year.

If you voted today, check again tomorrow and see if it let’s you vote 1 time per day again.

I believe FB actually subsidizes votes like this as a way to encourage holdouts to sign up, but I do not have a link to confirm that.

Joe was one of my best friends in the world. I was so disappointed last year but I think he will make it this year.

And the World will be front and center in Cooperstown for the induction next summer. What a great day that will be!!

He was a very, very funny man and had a most gentle way about him. I miss him more than I can tell you.

@WORLD: I got to listen to him & meet him one time at a legion banquet and his stories were so great. I could listen to him for hours…the time went by way too fast. I really hope he makes it this year.

Hmmm… well, I just tried voting for a 2nd time today, and Facebook let me!

For whatever it’s worth, the list of names is a mile long (there must be 150 or 200 of them), and there are only 4 with more than 20 votes, and Joe’s currently winning!

    Joe Nuxhall – 152 votes
    Tom Cheek – 107
    Jacques Doucet – 105
    Skip Caray – 35

    Keep those votes coming!

I have a Facebook account but that is just wrong to require it. Some people are not allowed to have Facebook accounts due to their jobs among other things.
