The Arizona Fall League is having an all-star game on Saturday, November 7, and the Reds will be the most-represented MLB team. The Rising Stars Showcase is Saturday at 6:15p.m. MT on MLB Network and MLB.com (it doesn’t mention if MLB.com is a free feed or not.)

UPDATE Washington Nationals’ #1 overall pick, Stephen Strasburg, had his pitching schedule moved to make the start for the AFL East. has been scratched from his start with a neck strain. The Reds prospects play in the AFL West division.

The top pick, who’s making his unofficial pro debut in the AFL, is one of six 2009 first-round picks scheduled to be at the game, with Dustin Ackley, Mike Minor, Mike Leake, fellow Washington National Drew Storen and Rangers supplemental first-round pick Tanner Scheppers participating as well.

The Cincinnati Reds lead all organizations with four players on the West Division roster: Leake, Yonder Alonso, Zack Cozart and Chris Heisey. Several other organizations boast three players in the game.

Chris Heisey and Zack Cozart are hitting very well so far in the fall league with 1.175 and .953 OPS, respectively. Mike Leake has a very low 2.31 ERA in 4 games.

leake reminds me of maddux (greg type). good control, trusts his defense, doesn’t walk anybody. i’m really excited to have him in the organization and i think he’ll be in the rotation by mid-2011.

What other Reds have done well in the past in the AFL?

I think Heisey has an excellent chance to start LF next year for the Reds, especially if Gomes is not brought back…

I like Leake a lot. I think he will be a good starter within a couple of years.

Janish may have his hands full holding off Cozart if he can hit like that this spring.

Drew Nelson: What other Reds have done well in the past in the AFL?

Sorry to be morbid, but a Reds OFer who really tore up the AFL in 2003 was Dernell Stenson.

Tragically, he was murdered in Scottsdale Arizona toward the end of that 2003 AFL season, by a group of 4 men. The criminal investigation said they were SUV hijackers, although a flaky ex-girl friend of his was considered a suspect for a long time.

I don’t get the MLB network on DISH, but the mlb.com feed is live.

The are getting ready to go to the bottom of the 5th inning and Heisey and Alonso are due up to bat. Heisey started in LF and batting 4th. Alonso started at 1B and is batting 5th. They are a combined 4-for-4 so far. Heisey with a HR, and each player with a double.

    Cozart is on the bench.
Leake pitched 1 inning out of the bullpen, gave up 1 hit, no runs, and struck out 3.

    Heisey K’s
    Alonso a line-drive single to right-center field.

Nice to see those two 5-for-6 with 3 runs and 4 RBI against the all-star AFL pitchers.

Their team, however, is down 1-run, 7-6.

I was super impressed with Heisey’s HR in the 1st, it was a quick flick of the wrists. This guy sure was a diamond in the rough, he looks impressive.

we have such amazing talent that came up and helped the big leagues last year and a lot that can help this year and years to come. My hope is that the front office wont trade them all away to try and lure and aging super-star to cincinnati!
