Time for a recap of tonight’s titanic struggle….

BOX SCORE

POSITIVES
–Wladimir Balentien was 2-3 with a double, a walk, and an RBI. I know he’s a 5-tool Leatherpants Special, but his AAA numbers make me wonder whether he might end up as a decent major leaguer. He hasn’t looked too bad at the plate, but he’s Dunn-esque in the outfield, I’m afraid (from the limited amount of time I’ve been able to watch him).

NEGATIVES
–TOS*

–.237/.273/.284. Unbelievable. Every day that a person with these statistics is in the leadoff spot is another day that Dusty Baker deserves to be fired for rank incompetence.

ETC.
–Well, the 2-game winning streak was fun. Perhaps the Reds weren’t as white-hot as I thought they were.

–Scott Rolen missed his third game, of seven since he’s been a Red. You can hardly blame him for getting beaned in the head, but it does point out an undeniable truth about Rolen: the guy can’t stay on the field. He’s averaged 106 games over the last 4 years. Are you expecting any more than that in 2010?

–This team is difficult to watch in every way.
