Games played on 8/7/09:
—Ben Jukich, Redleg Nation‘s Minor League Pitcher of the Month for July, took the loss, but he didn’t give up any earned runs over five innings. He did give up 3 unearned runs, 8 hits, and 1 walk, while striking out 6. Jukich is now 7-5 with a 4.04 ERA for the season.
—Danny Dorn, playing 1B, continued his good play. Dorn was the only Bat with more than one hit, going 2-4. On the season, Dorn is hitting .262/.327/.452, which is only good when you consider how poorly he started the season.
–I hesitate to mention the “pitching” but suffice to say that three different pitchers gave up 6 earned runs each. Ouch.
–The hitters scored nine runs, which wasn’t nearly enough. RN Spotlight Player Logan Parker hit the lone homer for the Mudcats, and he also walked twice.
–3B Juan Francisco was the hitting star, with three doubles in five ABs. He scored two runs and drove in two more. Plus, he committed zero errors. For the season, Francisco is hitting .281/.317/.511 with 22 HR and 74 RBI.
–RF Steven Chapman also went 3-5, with a 3B, a run, and an RBI. Chapman, who started the season at Dayton (A), is hitting .229/.289/.457 with 4 HR and 10 RBI in 26 games with Carolina.

–RHP Lance Janke pitched six shutout innings, scattering only three hits. Janke, drafted in the 14th round in 2008 out of San Diego Christian College, struck out five and walked none. Impressive outing. This was his first start for Carolina; Janke was 5-5 with a 4.06 ERA for Dayton.
–CF Dave Sappelt was the only offensive player of note, going 3-5 in the leadoff spot. Sappelt is hitting .275/.326/.393 combined with Sarasota and Dayton this season.
