Dusty being Dusty:

Chris Dickerson going on the disabled list would have seemed like a perfect time to call up one of the Reds’ top outfield prospects.

Manager Dusty Baker said the Reds considered bringing up Drew Stubbs or Chris Heisey from Louisville.

“But they need to play,” Baker said.

Heaven forbid that you would sit Willy Taveras on his worthless butt and let someone else play CF for the Reds, Dusty!

I’ve never been as high on Drew Stubbs as others, and I don’t know if he’ll even be an average major leaguer, but Dusty’s love for Taveras is sickening. You will remember that he finally gave up on Corey Patterson last year. It didn’t take him nearly this long, either. And is there a better time to see if Stubbs can handle the job? It’s a lost season, give the kid a chance and see if he might be able to handle the job in ’10.

Face it, Taveras is going to be the starting CF and leadoff “hitter” for the rest of this year and all of next year, too. I’m going to go throw up now.
