Can anyone name one thing that Walt Jocketty has done to make the Reds a better team/organization? Just one?
It’s certainly not entirely Jocketty’s fault that the Reds are headed for a ninth straight losing season. We can’t reasonably expect him to have fixed everything that was wrong with this club when he took over a year and a half ago.
We should, however, expect that the organization will be moving forward under the new leadership. Shouldn’t we? Well…is this club moving in the right direction? And, if they are, can any of it be attributed to anything Jocketty has done?
All I can see is that he has wasted a bunch of money and made the offense worse. He has signed not one single player that can be expected to be a significant part of the next competitive Reds team. He has sat idly as his on-field staff puts players on the field who refuse or are incapable of playing inspired, fundamentally-sound baseball every single day.
What am I missing? I know there are some good answers to the question at the top of this post; I’m just so sick of this team right now, I guess I can’t think of anything.
So, what has Walt Jocketty done?
UPDATE: To clarify, I’m not blaming Jocketty. I’m not saying he should have fixed everything in a year and a half. I’m just saying he should have fixed something by now. And maybe he has. You guys are making some great points in the comments.
