A 9-game hitting streak for Valaika.

Baker isn’t interested in Stubbs or Heisey. Is McDonald still ahead of them on his depth chart?

  2. GregD

Did anyone catch any of the futures game?

Heisey was 0-2 as the US starting LFer.
JC Sulbaran picked up the save for the World team.

Were these the only two Reds on the rosters?

  3. GRF

Anyone else fear McDonald will get the call after the break to fill the outfield spot? From Dusty’s comments, seems like they are dead set on not burning a year of Stubbs or Heisey in the majors this season.

  4. Steve Price

As much as we will hate this, these times are the reasons we have guys like McDonald, Sutton, Rosales, Miller, Barker, and all those relievers in Louisville. We don’t need to call up guys before they’re ready (Stubbs and Heisey).

While we all would prefer to “watch the kids play”, it doesn’t do them any good if they’re not ready. That would only make matters worse in the future.

  5. GregD

Are they not ready or is the front office overly conservative?

For example, does Travis Wood really still need to be in AA?

  6. GRF

Steve, I tend to agree with Greg. I can see the point with 21 or 22 year olds, but Stubbs is 24 and will be 25 in October. To me, it seems like it is not too early to bring him up and see how he does. If he is so far away that a couple weeks tryout in the majors could damage him, I think we have some bigger problems.

I would really like to see Stubbs make an adjustment and get some of his power back…and I’d like to see Heisey stroke AAA pitching a little longer to see if the league can adjust to him (forcing him to adjust) or if it’s just that easy.

  8. Steve Price

Wow, Sean Conner(y) playing for Billings. What music do they play when he comes to bat?

  9. Eddie

Drew Stubbs still needs work on his game. He needs to try and get his power back (like Steve said) and he needs to cut down on the strikeouts.
I actually agree with the organization on this one.

  10. Tom Diesman

I don’t see the point in waiting on Stubbs any longer. He’s already had over 400 PA in AAA and put up about the same numbers there that he has over his minor league career, .271 .369 .407 776.

AAA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO AVG OBP SLG OPS
    Stubbs 358 51 101 24 2 4 35 36 6 46 91 .282 .366 .394 .760

Stubbs hasn’t shown any power up to this point as a pro and is going to continue to K at a high rate. The positive side is he is going to hit for a decent average, BB a lot, and steal a lot of bases. He’s a top of the order hitter, much like Dickerson, who will drive Marty nuts because he Ks a lot. He’s 24 with nearly 4 pro seasons under his belt, if the Reds organization hasn’t polished his fundamentals by now, then shame on them. What is the holdup?
