From Mark Sheldon:

The club has been in extensive talks with agent Dan Horwits, who represents pitchers Mike Leake and Brad Boxberger, the eighth and 43rd overall picks, respectively.

“It’s going very well with both of those guys,” Reds scouting director Chris Buckley said by phone Wednesday. “We haven’t been in a super duper rush, because both guys pitched a lot and were tired. Hopefully, we’re pretty close.”

If the pitchers are in good condition, they would likely report to Class A Sarasota. It’s also possible they might report to Billings, where the Reds have a rookie-level affiliate.

This is good news, I think.

Good news. On a somewhat related subject, does anyone know anything about the 4 players we signed from Venezuela? Are they considered significant prospects?

I think that was a type. Wasn’t it supposed to read ‘expensive talks’?

The 16 yr ss Humberto Valor is considered a top prospect.

John Fay is reporting that the Reds signed 4 additional draft picks:

–No. 5 Dan Tuttle, a right-handed high school pitcher from Randleman, N.C.

–No. 7 Josh Fellhauer, a center fielder from Cal St.-Fullerton.

–No. 19 Mitchell Clarke, a left-handed high school pitcher for Ontario, Canada.

–No. 22 David Stewart, a junior college first baseman.

Yeah, the Valor kid is rated around 15-16th overall from Latin America. I think he was one of the top two or three SS prospects as well.

So signing him is almost like having two first round draft picks.

While I was in Florida, I heard that Chris Burleson (#36) was there for one day and went home.
