Time for a recap of tonight’s titanic struggle….

Cincinnati 1
St. Louis 3
WP: Carpenter (4-0)
LP: Harang (5-6)

–Laynce Nix hit another homer, his 7th (OPS: 955). That was all the Reds could muster against Chris Carpenter, however.

–Chris Dickerson had two hits.

–I guess you could put Aaron Harang’s complete game in the positives column (8 IP, 8 H, 3 ER), but I never had the sense that he really had his good stuff at any time tonight. He was bailed out by 4 double plays in 8 innings, so that helped. Harang’s a battler, though, and an effort like he gave tonight should be enough to win on most nights.

–Everything else. The offense was spectacularly bad, chalking up just three hits. Much of that, of course, can be attributed to Carpenter, who was outstanding.

–Brandon Phillips made his fourth error of the season.

–Do you think the Cardinals would trade Albert Pujols for Willy Taveras? Pujols is good.

–Let’s face it: a 2-5 road trip against the teams ahead of the Reds in the division just isn’t going to cut it. These guys need to get back in gear quickly, and the upcoming weekend series against the stupid Cubs is the perfect time to do that.
