BOX SCORE
POSITIVES
–Good for Alex Gonzalez! I was really happy to see everyone mob Gonzo around second base after he got the game-winning hit today. It’s been a rough year for him, so it’s nice to see him having some success. Three hits and three RBI; I’ll take that.
–Johnny Cueto pitched a good game. Not as sharp at times as he has been, but I can’t complain about his performance today. Seven good innings (and it could have been even better if it weren’t for some simply awful umpiring; see below).
–Ramon Hernandez continued his good hitting, getting three more hits including the big hit to start the 11th inning. His average is up to .291.
–Who is this Arthur Rhodes? He struck out the side in the 10th, and continues to be simply dominant.
–Three cheers for Carlos Fisher, who made his major league debut in uniform number 46. All he did was strike out the first hitter he faced and collect a victory. Great day for the youngster, and I think he can really contribute to this bullpen.
NEGATIVES
–Rob Drake, the third base umpire, is a complete moron. He made a terrible interference call on Adam Rosales that gave the Indians a free run after Jonny Gomes made a great hustling play and threw Grady Sizemore out at home. Rob Drake is just awful, and there’s no disputing it. He almost cost the Reds this game, and he definitely cost Johnny Cueto a win.
ETC.
–Last Reds rookie rookie reliever to win his major league debut? Hector Carrasco.
–Did you see Adam Rosales’ vertical leap in the dugout after Gonzo’s game-winner? I really like that kid.
–Fun game (except for the Rob Drake high-jinks), and the Reds win the series. The Reds are now .500 on the current homestand, with Houston coming into town.
