Games played on Monday, May 18
Triple – A
Norfolk 6 – Louisville 2; game 1
Jonny Gomes hit his 9th homerun of the season in the first inning and supplied all the offense the Bats would get. Gomes went 3-3 at the plate, adding a double to his homerun and driving in 2 rbis. Danny Richar went 2-3 in the contest with a triple.
Sam Lecure allowed all 6 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks in his 5 innings of work. Sam fell to 2-3 on the season and his ERA rose to 5.03.
Norfolk 2 – Louisville 0; game 2
The Bats offense, or lack thereof, struck out a combined 10 times in game 2 over just 7 innings. The team also managed just 4 hits.
Homer Bailey fell to 3-5 with the loss. Bailey gave up 2 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. He pitched all 6 innings, throwing 90 pitches, 62 of which were for strikes.
Double – A
Carolina 3 – Jacksonville 2; game 1
The Mudcats had only 5 hits, but 3 of them were doubles which allowed the Mudcats to scrape out a 1-run victory. Juan Francisco went 2-3 with a double and an rbi. Eric Eymann doubled and scored a run while Chris Denove doubled, scored a run, and drove in a run.
Travis Wood allowed 2 or more earned runs for only the 2nd time this season and saw his ERA balloon to 1.60 in the no-decision. Wood allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 7 over 5.1 innings pitched. Wood seems to be playing with fire however considering he has walked 27 in 45 innings pitched.ÂÂ
Jacksonville 4 – Carolina 1; game 2-final 10
Sean Henry’s homerun in the 2nd inning for Carolina would be the only offense the team would score in this extra inning affair. Henry also added a double and a walk in his 2-3 game.
Camilo Vazquez allowed 3 runs on 1 hit and 4 walks in the 10th inning for the loss. After the game, Vazquez said he was trying to be like David Weathers!ÂÂ
Class A Advanced
The Reds had just 4 hits and committed 3 errors. Jerry Gil fell to 0-6 with the loss and now has an ERA of 9.93 after allowing 6 runs (4 earned) in 4.2 innings pitched.
