No, not that Junior. According to Jonathan Mayo, Jerry Hairston, Jr., is getting back to his regular routine:
Hairston is just now getting back into action with the Reds after a nasty bout with influenza knocked him off his feet while he was with Team Mexico for the World Baseball Classic. Needless to say, Hairston did not get a flu shot this year. It’s not a mistake he’ll make twice.
“The doctor said, ‘Now you know why people get flu shots,'” Hairston said. “I’ll be the first in line to get one [next year].”
Hairston didn’t get out of bed for a week, staying in Arizona while Mexico played in the second round of the tournament in San Diego. Hairston played in the first game of that round, but he came out before its completion, and that was it for him. He lost more than 10 pounds in the process, dropping from his usual 193-195 pounds. He’s at about 184 pounds now, the lightest he’s been since perhaps his rookie season.
I don’t recommend the Hairston Flu Diet for those of you who are looking to drop a few pounds. Glad to have Hairston back, though. It will be interesting to see who gets the bulk of the ABs at shortstop if/when Alex Gonzalez is out for any length of time.
