Today is Tyler Stovall’s first day of spring training at Sarasota, Fla.

He’s a second-year pro, drafted in the 20th round out of Central Michigan last June by the Cincinnati Reds and sent to their rookie Billings, Mont., team for the summer.

Mostly a catcher at Cincinnati Moeller and at CMU, Stovall was moved to the outfield, where he also played in college. He hit .333 in 147 at-bats last season.

Now he’s at spring training, where he’s expected to make the roster of the Dayton Dragons — as all the Reds’ minor-league players report.

“It’s a combination of excitement and a little bit of nerves,” Stovall said in a telephone interview.

We’re hoping to see Tyler in Dayton here shortly, unless we see him in Sarasota!
