Another cause we can all support:
The people who love Joe Nuxhall are trying again to get him into Cooperstown.
A rally to kick off a regional effort to get the late Reds broadcaster nominated for the 2009 Ford C. Frick broadcaster’s award will be held at noon Tuesday at Fairfield’s Village Green Park.
“I’m hoping we can break the record from last year that we set so we can get Joe qualified to be considered,’’ said Butler County Commissioner Greg Jolivette, who is organizing the rally.
Last year Nuxhall received the most fan votes – 82,304, highest vote total ever – to put him on the ballot. But a selection committee passed over Nuxhall to honor longtime Seattle Mariners broadcaster Dave Niehaus.
Three of the 10 candidates for the award are determined by fan votes. A Hall of Fame staff research team will determine the other seven candidates, said Jackie Brown, spokeswoman for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
Here’s how to vote:
To vote for Nuxhall: Voting opens Monday at www.baseballhall.org. Fans may vote once a day through Sept. 30, for up to three of the 210 eligible broadcasters, including Nuxhall.
