August 2, 1924: The Reds collect 24 hits and overwhelm the Braves, 19-2, in the second game of a DH in Boston. the Reds also won the first game, 2-0.

In early August, Cincinnati papers reported that the Reds had agreed to purchase Lefty Grove from Baltimore in the International League for $60,000. The deal fell through, however, when Baltimore demanded more money. As it turned out, Grove was worth every penny. The Philadelphia Athletics purchased the future 300-game winner and HOFer for $100,000 in October.
