April 24, 1984: John Franco makes his major league debut, giving up one run while pitching the ninth inning of a 4-2 loss to the Braves in Atlanta. On the same day, the Reds sold Alex Trevino to the Braves.

Franco graduated from Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, New York, the same institution attended by Sandy Koufax.
