July 25, 1918: Hal Chase and Lee Magee attempt to throw the first game of a DH in Boston. The fix failed despite Magee’s two errors and a base-running blunder. Edd Roush won the game in the 13th with a 2 run home run. The Chat-Magee plot was revealed in a trial two years later. (June 9, 1920)

The Reds sell Fred Toney to the Giants. Although Toney, 28, had won 61 games with the Reds in 4 seasons, he was 6-10 at the time of the trade. But he rebounded with thte Giants and helped lead them to the ’21 pennant. He retired in 1923.
