October 4, 1961: The Yankees defeat the Reds, 2-0, in the first game of the World Series before 62,397 at Yankee Stadium. Elston Howard and Bill Skowron hit solo homers off Jim O’Toole. Whitey Ford allowed only two hits, both singles.
