Over the last fifteen years, the Reds have a pretty poor history of diagnosing these things, but according to the team, Aaron Harang is okay. Just a forearm strain:

Aaron Harang has been ordered not to pick up a baseball for a week.

And the Reds couldn’t be happier.

The MRI on Harang was normal. He has a right forearm strain and will be re-examined this weekend….

Harang’s going on the disabled list, but probably for a short stint.

“We want to make sure he’s 100 percent,” Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said. “But he should be ready at the end of the two weeks.”

Since the move to the DL probably will be retroactive to July 8, Harang will be eligible to come off July 23, which is seven days after the All-Star Break. So if all goes well, he’ll miss only two starts.

Let’s hope so.

John Fay also mentions “Tommy John” surgery again, for what it’s worth. Not sure what evidence there is for that speculation, but it has sure done a great job of scaring a lot of people.
