Dave from Louisville — one of our favorite commenters here at Redleg Nation — submitted something that I found interesting:

I was looking at the Cubs schedule, noticed that there is a pretty good reason that they have the record that they do…..THEY HAVEN”T PLAYED ANYONE. I decided to [do] a breakdown of their record and ours, and hopefully we at Redleg Nation can be optimistic about the second half.

First let’s look at who our Redlegs have played :
ARI 2-1
PHI 3-5
MIL 3-3
PIT 2-4
CHC 3-3
LAD 1-4
HOU 0-2
SF 2-1
STL 2-4
ATL 3-3
NYM 1-2
FLA 5-2
CLE 3-0
SD 2-2
BOS 1-2

That’s a grand total of a 33-38 record. Broken down further:
vs. Teams with a winning record as of 6/15 : 39 games (19-20)
vs. Teams with a losing record as of 6/15 : 32 games (14-18)

Now let’s look at everyone’s favorite Cubs:
ARI 3-0
PHI 1-2
MIL 2-4
PIT 9-3
CIN 3-3
LAD 5-2
HOU 3-3
STL 1-2
ATL 3-0
NYM 2-0
SD 5-2
COL 5-1
WAS 1-2
TOR 1-2
That’s a grand total of a 45-25 record. Broken down further:
vs. Teams with a winning record as of 6/15 : 15 games!! (7-8)
vs. Teams with a losing record as of 6/15 : 55 games (38-17)

That’s 23 more games against losers!! The Cubs schedule should get a little tougher with CWS and TB coming up; on the other hand, we should get to take our turn on beating up on the west just like they have.

I think the Redlegs have a schedule favorable for a 2nd half run. If the Cubs begin to stall and if STL doesn’t get healthy, we still have a shot.

Definitely. I’m all for more optimism.

Thanks for the post, Dave!
