October 5, 1979: The Pirates sweep the Reds and capture the NL pennant with an easy 7-1 win at Three Rivers Stadium.

The team of the 1970s closed the decade in disappointing fashion by scoring only five runs in the series. Postseason play would not come to Cincinnati again until 1990. The Pirates moved on to defeat the Orioles in 7 games in the ’79 World Series.
