It’s time, once again, to announce the Redleg Nation Minor League Players of the Month for May, 2008.

Hitter: Jay Bruce, Louisville (AAA)

You may have noticed that Bruce has been promoted to the major leagues. In the meantime, however, he’s still winning minor league awards. At Louisville during May, Bruce hit .419, with 5 HR and 18 RBI. Bruce’s OBP was .453 and his SLG was .709. Just astounding numbers for the phenom from Texas.

Fortunately, it appears that this is the last Minor League Player of the Month award that Bruce will ever win.

Pitcher: Robert Manuel, Chattanooga (AA)

This was a very close vote, but Manuel edged out Louisville’s Matt Maloney for the award this month. Manuel’s May numbers were outstanding: 0.90 ERA in 20 relief innings, striking out 27 batters while issuing just five walks and surrendering only 14 hits.

Honorable Mention: Matt Maloney, Louisville.

Congratulations to both of our Players of the Month for May!
