April 17, 1939: The Reds lose on Opening Day for the 7th consecutive season, as the Pirates score 4 times in the 8th inning for a 7-5 win before 30,644 fans at Crosley Field. Frank McCormick homered for the Reds.

There was some concern that the game would have to be postponed because flood waters came perilously close to the ballpark. The Reds added a ladies’ rest room in the right field bleachers at Crosley Field during the 1938-39 off season. Previously, there had been facilities only for the men.
