Redleg Nation would like to congratulate our Player of the Month for April, Edinson Volquez.

What a debut for the 24-year-old right-handed pitcher acquired from Texas in the offseason in exchange for Josh Hamilton. After astounding observers in spring training and cracking the Opening Day rotation, Volquez hasn’t missed a beat since the season started.

In April, Volquez was 4-0 with a 1.23 ERA, striking out 33 while walking 16. He leads the league in ERA, is tied for 2nd in wins, and is in the top 12 in the NL in strikeouts. All in all, a much better April than anyone could have hoped for.

In the process, Volquez showed flashes of complete domination, and gave Reds fans reason to be very excited about his potential. Again, congratulations to Edinson Volquez for earning 2008’s first Player of the Month award.

Honorable Mentions: Edwin Encarnacion, Joey Votto, and Aaron Harang.
