It’s time for Redleg Nation to announce the first Player of the Month awards for 2008.

Hitter: Brandon Waring, Dayton

Waring, the slugging 3B who was picked in the 7th round of last year’s draft, has picked up right where he left off last season. In April, Waring hit .291, with a .354 OBP and an SLG of .581. Waring bombed 7 HR and drove in 18 runs.

Honorable mentions go to Dayton SS Todd Frazier, Sarasota SS Chris Valaika, and Dayton LF Keltavious Jones.

Pitcher: Daryl Thompson, Chattanooga

Thompson, a 22-year-old right-hander from Maryland capped off a brilliant April by being the unanimous choice among Redleg Nation editors for Minor League Pitcher of the Month. Thompson, an 8th round pick of the Expos in the 2003 draft, compiled a 2-1 record last month with an ERA of 0.57. Even more astounding is Thompson’s sterling K/BB ratio of 36 to 4! Great month for the young guy.

Congratulations to both of our Minor League Players of the Month for April!
