Dwayne Wise was 3-4 with 2 runs scored, Jeff Keppinger (.373/.429/.476) was 3-4 with 2 walks and 3 RBIs. 23 year old SS Pedro Lopez (.273/.369/.402) was 2-4 with a double (.273/.369/.402). 32 year old 2B Mark Bellhorn was 2-5 with a double. 28 year old Jeff Bannon was 2-5 with a double. 25 year old CF Chris Dickerson (.256/.377/.422) was 2-4.

On the Reds broadcast last night Marty and Tom were discussing the value on the Reds roster of Juan Castro vs Jeff Keppinger and both agreed that Keppinger had the talent to win more games for the Reds than Castro would, because he’s a better offensive player.

25 year old RHP Phil Dumatrait allowed 3 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings. Jared Burton threw 2 perfect innings, striking out 2. Since going to Louisville at the end of June, he’s throw 7 innings, hasn’t allowed a run, allowed 4 hits, 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. Gary Majewski has a rough outing, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks in one inning. Before last night, he had a nice string going…since June 17th he’d thrown 7 2/3 allowing 2 ER on 7 hits, walking 3 (all in the same outing).

Chattanooga 4 – Mississippi 3

25 year old 1B Adam Rosales (hitting in the leadoff spot) was 2-4 (.259/.300/.426). 20 year old Jay Bruce was only 1-3 with a walk on the night, but his one hit was a triple. Since his promotion, Jay is hitting .345/.415/.707. For the entire year, .328/.386/.607. 27 year old Tyrell Godwin won the game for the Lookouts with a 2 run PH homer. He’d been on a 7-46 slide before the game winner.

24 year old RHP Ramon Ramirez threw 2 scoreless innings of relief and Josh Roenicke picked up his second save for the Lookouts with a hitless ninth. Roenicke has thrown 7 innings since being promoted, allowing 4 hits and striking out 10.

Sarasota 3 – Tampa 1
23 year old Mike Griffin was 2-4 with a double (.302/.334/431).

Ben Jukich threw, by far, his best game since coming over from the A’s organization as the final player in the Denorfia trade. He threw a complete game (7 inning) 3 hitter, allowing 1 run with 5 strikeouts. The one run came on a HR.

Dayton 20 – Great Lakes 3

For the second time in 3 games, the Dragons used an 11 run inning to put a “whupin” on Great Lakes. RN Spotlight Player Logan Parker had a big game, going 3-5 with a double, driving in 3 runs and collecting a walk. 19 year old Juan Francisco also had 3 hits. Turner, Phipps, and Heisey all had 2 hits, Phipps and Heisey both homered.

21 year old Rafeal Gonzalez threw 5 2/3 of 4 hit, 2 walk, shutout baseball to get the win, raising his record to 10-3 and lowering his ERA to 2.90.

Rookie Leagues

Pioneer League

Helena 15 – Billings 14

Helena went made a 2 point conversion to beat Billings 15-14. Seriously, again, the Billings bullpen resembled the parent clubs and couldn’t close the door, allowing 5 runs in the last 3 innings including the tieing run in the 8th and go ahead run in the 9th.

21 year old 3B Brandon Waring had a huge night for the Mustangs, going 4-5 with a double, HR and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored 5. (.328/.423./567). 22 year old 1B Michael McKennon had another big game also, going 4-5 with a double and a walk. He scored 3 runs and knocked in 2. (.377/.413/.594) 21 year old RF Keltavious Jones was 3-6, scoring 3 runs.

As one would expect then a staff gives up 15 runs, there’s not much to talk about pitching wise. But thus far, RN Spotlight Player Matt Klinker has been their best reliever, one would have to wonder if they’d consider either starting him or using him as the closer.

The GCL Reds had an off day.
