Last night, the Midwest League conducted its all-star game with several of Dayton’s own participating in the game. 2B Justin Turner went 1-3 in the game with a double, rbi, and run scored. Justin ended the first half of the season batting .309/.379/.450. SS Chris Valaika went 0-2 with a sacrifice and an rbi. Valaika hit .318/.356/.500 in the first half. 3B Juan Francisco also went 1-3 in the game with an rbi. Juan batted .278/.324/.474 over the first half of the season with 12 homeruns. Outfielder Drew Stubbs ended the night hitless for the East All-Stars in his 3 at-bats. Thus far this season, Drew is at .253/.348/.369.
On the pitching side of the game, Sean Watson got the start and pitched 1 inning, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, and struck out 2. Sean is currently 5-2 with a 1.88 ERA. He has recorded 85 Ks in 71.2 innings pitched. Rafael Gonzalez pitched the 3rd inning in the game, allowing 1 run on 2 hits, a walk, while striking out 1. Gonzalez currently stands at 9-1 with Dayton, sporting a 2.04 ERA.
In the end, the East All-Stars took the victory by a scored of 8-2. The East tallied 15 hits to just 5 by the West. Deik Scram for West Michigan (Detroit affiliate) took home MVP honors.
