Greetings Redleg Nation,
I have arrived safely in Billings, Montana to begin my professional baseball career with the Billings Mustangs. My window seat on the flight from Salt Lake City to Billings provided me with some of the most scenic views my eyes have ever seen. But perhaps a proper introduction is needed before I get too carried away.
My name is Matt Klinker. I live in West Chester, Ohio and was recently selected by the Reds in the 15th round of the MLB first-year player draft. Shortly after the draft I was asked if I wanted to share my experiences this summer with your website and I jumped at the opportunity. My goal is to make weekly posts that provide an enlightening insight into the Billings Mustangs as well as the overall minor league baseball experience.
Being as Cincinnati is my hometown, I was able to sign my contract this past Monday in the Reds front office. It was a great experience to get a behind-the-scenes look of the Reds organization. Wilma Mann, the Reds director of scouting administration, was extremely helpful in the entire signing process as well as settling some of my anxiety about heading out west to Billings.
Sorry if this post is a little slow, but I promise it only sets the stage for an exciting 80-day adventure through the Pioneer League. Please feel free to reply and ask questions, I will try and address them in a timely manner.
Yours in baseball,
Matt Klinker
