Redleg Nation is proud to announce, though belatedly, our Minor League Players of the Month:
Chris Valaika, SS, Dayton Dragons (2006 – 3rd round) – This 21 year old right handed hitting SS picked right up where he left off when he was the MVP of the Pioneer League last season. In April, he hit .390/.424/.558 with 6 doubles, 2 triples, and a homer. He has 10 runs scored and 17 RBIs in the month of April.
We had a tie in our voting for Minor League Pitcher of the Month.
Daryl Thompson, P, Dayton Dragons (Montreal 2003 – 8th round) – This 21 year old RHP came over from the Nationals last season in the Kearns/Lopez trade. He was limited last season due to shoulder problems, only throwing 20 innings. In April, he was 4-0 with a .39 ERA and a WHIP of .52. In 23 innings, he allowed 1 run on 11 hits, walking 1 and striking out 19. He was promoted this week to Sarasota.
Phil Dumatrait, P, Louisville Bats (Boston 2000 – 1st round) – This 25 year old LHP came over from the Red Sox in 2003 in exchange for Scott Williamson. Dumatrait had a great April in AAA going 4-0 in 5 starts, with a .63 ERA and a WHIP of 1.08. He allowed AAA hitters to hit only .180 off him for the month.
Congratulations to all of our Players of the Month for April.
