JD reports that the Reds signed sideburned former Brave Kerry Ligtenberg (no “h” in there) to a minor league deal with an invite to camp. Ligtenberg will be 36 this year, which meets the first requirement for our ‘pen, and hasn’t been effective since 2003, but it’s really a no-risk deal. He was a pretty decent reliever there for 5 years, and has been okay at AAA the last couple years, so why not?
UPDATE (by Chad): Here’s the Enquirer’s story, which includes this nugget:
The Reds also announced that right-handed pitcher Jared Burton had agreed to a one-year contract.
Burton, 25, was selected from the Oakland A’s in the Rule 5 Draft.
FYI.
