Reds.com has this standard pre-Spring-Training piece on all the jobs that are up for grabs as we head toward the opening of camp. I think this article just gets re-written every year, changing the names:
A few jobs are up for grabs, including the fifth starter’s spot. Saarloos, Matt Belisle, Elizardo Ramirez and non-roster invitee Victor Santos are among those in the battle.
Could the jockeying for position also include super-prospect Homer Bailey? Unlikely, but a lights-out spring could make the question all the more intriguing.
The Reds also haven’t decided who will be the closer when the regular season opens. Weathers, Stanton, Bill Bray and Todd Coffey are among those in the mix.
I’d love to see Coffey or Bray step up to grab the closer’s role, but I’m afraid it’s going to be Weathers. I know he’s had periods of success, but regular readers of Redleg Nation are well aware of my fear of Stormy Weathers. He scares me to death every time he takes the mound.
Anyway, not much new in this article, but it’s something to read on a cold February afternoon.
