Drew Anderson is a switch hitting 2B who improved this season over the .669 OPS he put up at A Dayton last season. Look for Anderson to begin next season back at AA Chattanooga and possibly end the season in AAA Louisville with a good season.
Chris Dickerson is a LH hitting OF who is one of, if not the, best athlete in the Red’s organization. Blessed with great speed and a good eye, he will go as far as his bat will take him. He improved over the .708 OPS he put up last season at A+ Sarasota. He’ll probably start next season at AAA Louisville, and could make an appearance with the Red’s as an extra OF if the right situation arises.
Javon Moran is a RH hitting OF who is a speedster who hits for a high average and little power. He also does not draw many walks, so he will need to continue to hit .300+ to maintain a respectable OBP. He held his own at AA Chattanooga last season and will most likely start the season there next year and finish it in AAA Louisville.
Jon Coutlangus is a LH reliever picked up from San Francisco before the season. He had a very good season at AA Chattanooga and finished up the season with two games at AAA Louisville. He is stingy with the hits and gets his share of Ks, needs to cut down the BBs just a bit. Look for him to start next season in AAA Louisville and to make his major league debut with the Red’s bullpen later in the season.
Phil Dumatrait is a LH SP who started out very well in AA Chattanooga last season and ended up struggling a bit at AAA Louisville. Homer Bailey aside, he is the SP prospect closest to the majors in the Red’s system. He’ll start next season back at AAA Louisville, which is the only level of the minors he has yet to solve. It would not be surprising to see him make his major league debut with the Reds next season.
Calvin Medlock was a RH RP this season after being a very successful SP at A+ Sarasota last year. He proved to be a good reliever at AA Chattanooga last year and will most likely begin next season at AAA Louisville where a good showing could make it possible to see his major league debut also.
Tyler Pelland is another LH SP who did fairly well at AA Chattanooga last year. His achilles heal is throwing strikes. He may be promoted to AAA Louisville next season, but he could be held back for another stint at AA Chattanooga also. Mastering the strike zone is key for him.
We’ll keep an eye on these players progress as the AFL season progresses.
Later,
Tom
