21 year-old Chris Valaika (Reds #3 – 2006) went 2 for 4 extending his hitting streak to 29 games.  Valaika is one game away from the Pioneer League record set earlier in the year by Ricardo Nanito of Great Falls the rookie team for the Chicago White Sox.  The Mustang shortstop  is now hitting .330/.393/.541.

24 year-old Justin Mallett (Reds Undrafted FA – 2003) whose family has been spelling their name wrong for years, pitched 5.1 fantastic innings allowing just 4 H, 0 ER, and 0 BB while striking out 4.  Since being promoted Justin has a 4.00 ERA with 26 K, 12 BB, and 40 H in 36 IP.


Chattanooga 6, Birmingham 4 11 innings

25 year-old Jon Coutlangus (Giants #19 – 2003) pitched 2 more scoreless innings allowing just 2 BB while striking out 1.  Coutlangus now has a 1.97 ERA with 52 Ks, 28 BB, 36 H, in 59 IP.


Richmond 6, Louisville 2

27 year-old Dane Sardinha (Reds #2 – 2000) remember him?  He went 0 for 4 again.  He is now hitting .168/.221/.218 in 215 PA.  His best season ever was 2004 when he hit .262/.294/.404 at Louisville.  .

    Sardina, Sardine, whatever…he sucks!!
    I get sick of hearing about losers who are older than established stars in the majors. There should be an age limit in each class: Like if your 22 and still in class A, your cut. If your 24 and still in AA, your cut. And you turn 27 while in AAA, and that’s pushing it, your cut. That would be great!!!!
