Fort Wayne 7, Dayton 2

Are there any prospects at Dayton when Bruce isn’t playing?  When Bruce is out, Fisher and Wood aren’t pitching, and Rosales and Szymanski go 0-fer is there anything in Dayton worth blogging about?

Durham 4, Louisville 3

25-year old Phil Dumatrait (Red Sox #1 – 2000) pitched 6.1 innings gave up 7 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, and a Milton-like 3 HR.  How on earth did he give up 7 H, 4 BB, 3 HR and only 4 Runs?  He now has a 4.01 ERA with 48 K, 26 BB, 88 H, and 9 HR in 76.1 IP

    I was at the Durham-Louisville game yesterday. 3 of the runs Dumatrait gave up were with 2 outs in the first, a solo job to the lawn in center by Delmon Young and, 2 batters later, a 2-run bomb over the blue monster in left. He induced inning-ending double plays in the 3rd and 4th after giving up a walk in the 3rd and single in the 4th. He walked another in the 5th but surrounded that with 2 groundouts and a K. He gave up another 2-out HR in the 6th then walked the next two batters before getting a flyball to end the inning. Then he gave up 2 singles in the 7th to give Durham runners at the corners with one out when he got yanked. Next batter flew out to medium right field, and Deno threw a one-hopper to Sardinha to nail the runner tagging from third. Sardinha made a nice play there – the ball and the runner’s spikes seemed to get to his glove simultaneously, and after everyone got untangled Dane had hung on to the ball.

    So Dumatrait scattered those hits and walks and was helped by a couple double plays and a play at the plate. Not a great outing, but pretty good.

    Adam is getting up there in a age for LOW A. But I do like him.

    I should rephrase my post. When Fisher and Wood aren’t pitching and Rosales and Szymnanski go O-fer…what is worth blogging about in Dayton?

    Hey, just back from vacation, and I had to put my two cents in…..
    Did you guys read this quote from Narron;
    “I loved the way we came out there in the ninth,” Reds manager Jerry Narron said after the game, a 9-7 win for the Reds. “Encarnacion is tremendous. [He] went down and got it for a base hit. It just shows you how far Eddie has come this year.”

    He is such a tool. Wish he would have known about Ed E all year long!!
