Let’s use this space to dicuss trade rumors and reality.

In the division:

– The Brewers have thrown in the towel, trading Carlos Lee to the Rangers.  They’re also giving up OF prospect Nelson Cruz, and getting relief pitcher Francisco Cordero and outfielders Kevin Mench and Laynce Nix.  I don’t follow the AL closely enough to weigh in on the deal, but it looks like the Brewers are adding depth for a 2007 run.

Will Carroll reports that the Astros are (still?) in the running for Miguel Tejada.  Current discussions have Adam Everett, Morgan Ensberg, and Fernando Nieve heading to Baltimore.  IIRC, Tejada still has 3 years (and about $30M) left on his deal.  I’m not really worried about the Astros making a run this year, but I’m also not excited about seeing him in the division for the forseeable future.

 – Carroll’s updated with news that Massux has turned down deals to the Mets and Braves (not sure what sort of no-trade clause he has).  Phoenix and the Dodgers are reported front-runners.  I heard similar news someplace else today.

the carlos lee deal could help the reds this weekend, has it already been approved and all that?

In his 7/27 column, Ken Rosenthal reported that the Reds and Cardinals sent scouts to Philly in order to look at Cory Lidle and Jon Lieber. Lidle would be a deja vu disaster, but Lieber might be worth taking a flyer on if the price is low.

i suppose it never hurts to look, but i have no reason to belive that either of those guys will contribute significantly more than a germano/claussen/belisle. the price may be low-ish, but with the market being what it is, it won’t be nothing, there are teams that need that fifth starter more than we do i think.

i guess we’ll see what germano looks like tomorrow.

except that it looks like most of our competition for the wildcard will come from the nl west. I still have hope that we can catch the cards, especially with a 4 game set coming up, but still…

I haven’t written off Claussen … if he can regain his 05 form, we have a very serviceable 5th starter.
