From a press release by the Dayton Dragons:
RHP Derrik Lutz, the Cincinnati Reds 19th round selection in the 2006 First Year Player Draft has been promoted from the GCL Reds to the Dayton Dragons and will join the team in time for the Dragons Wednesday night game against the Lansing Lugnuts at Fifth Third Field.
Interesting choice.
Lutz had only appeared in 2 games, throwing 5 2/3 innings, giving up 3 hits and 1 run, walking 0 and striking out 5.
Wonder why he was selected?
Just a guess, but a move in preparation of promoting Ward?
He was an excellent pick in the 19th round. He’s a closer who saw his stock fall his final year in college because he put up underwhelming numbers as a starter. The throws his fastball 95 mph with good movement and has a really good slider.
