and the Enquirer reports:

Olmedo up.

The Reds called up Ray Olmedo from Triple-A Louisville to take Aurilia’s roster spot.

snip…

Olmedo’s role will be limited.

“Early pinch hitter, pinch runner, double switch,” Narron said.

If a starter is out of the lineup, the Reds won’t simply plug in Olmedo.

“Brandon Phillips can play short,” Narron said. “(Ryan Freel) can play second.”

I’m not sure what Olmedo brings to the Reds…but then again, I’m not sure who else at Louisville would have been a better choice.

I wouldn’t mind an Olmedo start just once before he’s set back down. He’s turned himself into a good little hitter and has always played the field well.

Olmedo will have a tough time shedding that no-hit-good field label that been put on him. I hope he can do it.
