Throughout the course of the season, the editors of RN are going to choose from among the Reds Minor League Players a “Hitter of the Month” and “Pitcher of the Month”.
The “Hitter of the Month” for April ended in a tie:
Chris Denorfia of the Louisville Bats. For the month, Chris put up .351/.422/.541 numbers with 5 doubles, 3 homers and 40 total bases. He also drew 9 walks, while only striking out 8 times, all in 74 at bats. He also stole 4 bases without being caught. Remember, Chris started the season with the Reds and was demoted early on. He was recalled yesterday when Cody Ross was placed on the DL.
Drew Anderson of the Sarasota Reds earned the same amount of votes from our editors. In 73 at bats, Drew put up a .342/.415/.603 month with 7 doubles, 3 triples, and 2 homers, while compiling 44 total bases. He also drove in 13 runs.
Jay Bruce of the Dayton Dragons. In Jay’s first month of long season ball, in 83 ABs, he had a .277/.323/.492 month with 7 doubles, 2 triples, and 2 homers, with 40 total bases.
Pitcher of the Month
Homer Bailey of the Sarasota Reds was a near unanimous choice. Homer was 1-2 and threw 26 1/3 innings, giving up only 18 hits and 9 earned runs, while walking 7 and striking out 29. His ERA for the month was 3.08 and his WHIP was .95. He also threw 6 innings of no hit ball versus Lakeland.
Johnny Cueto of the Dayton Dragons. Cueto had a 3.15 ERA for the month when he went 2-1, pitching 20 innings, giving up 14 hits, 7 earned runs, 2 walks and 29 strikeouts.
(Editor’s Note: I’ve bumped this back to the top.)
