Columbus 3, Louisville 4

Robert Stratton went 2-4 including his 5th homerun of the season in the Bats 4-3 victory over Columbus yesterday. Ray Olmedo went 2-3 to raise his on base percentage to .383 on the year.

Chris Michalak pushed his record to 3-0 on the seaon with a 5 inning, 2 run, 9 hit performance. Chris now has a 3.12 era in 26 innings this season.


The first place Chattanooga Lookouts had the day off yesterday. They begin a 4 game set with Tennessee today in Chattanooga.

Sarasota 2, Tampa 1

Jay Garthwaite went 2-4 including his first triple on the year to help push the Reds to victory. Garthwaite also scored one of the 2 crucial runs in the game for Sarasota.

Jim Paduch turned in a phenominal starting performance. Paduch went 6.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 2. Paduch is now 3-0 with a 3.58 ERA in 5 starts. Abe Woody pitched a scoreless 9th to record his 4th save.

Low A

Dayton 13, Burlington 5, final 7

In game 1 of the double header, Dayton relied on a 9-run 3rd inning to defeat the Bees 13-5. Michael Griffin went 3-5 with a double (his 11th), 2 runs scored, and 2 runs batted in. Habelito Hernandez went 2-5 with 2 runs scored and 3 runs batted in. Finally, Chris Denove went 1-2 with 2 walks, and 3 runs batted in. These 3 guys combined to go 6-12 with 6 runs scored and 8 rbis in game 1.

Dayton 2, Burlington 0, final 7

In game 2, Jay Bruce supplied all of the offense Carlos Fisher would need. Bruce went 3-4 with a 2 run homer in the 1st inning to supply the margin of victory. Fisher went 5.1 innings, giving up 2 hits and 4 walks to record his 3 win on the season. Fisher is now 3-1 with a 2.35 ERA.

    The custom in the minors is to play 7 innings. I imagine the idea is to not burn out young arms with a pair of nine inning games, which can be very taxing on pitching staffs.
