The Reds played miserably today, so let’s focus on some good news. Chattanooga must have looked pretty good tonight:
The bombs were flying as the Lookouts defeated the Diamond Jaxx, 9-0. The offense set the tone in the second inning by putting six runs on the board on seven hits.
Miguel Perez got it going with a single, followed by a single by Noochie Varner. Lookouts starting pitcher, Travis Chick, followed with a double down the right field line after faking a bunt, scoring Perez from second and moving Varner to third. Norris Hopper then singled up the middle, scoring Varner from third. With Chick on third base, Javier Colina singled, scoring Chick. On a double steal, Hopper swiped third and Colina took second. Then Aaron Herr took a JR Mathes pitch and parked it over the left field fence. That’s all the offense the Lookouts needed, but it didn’t end there.
In the fourth, the Lookouts put the final touch on the victory, scoring three runs. With Votto on second and Herr on first, Alex Sanchez went deep to give the Lookouts a 9-0 lead.
The Lookouts pitching staff held the Diamond Jaxx to just four hits. Starter Travis Chick went six innings, only giving up three hits, while striking out five. Calvin Medlock and Brad Salmon pitched the final three innings, allowing one hit, two hits, while striking out four.
The Lookouts now own the best record in the Southern League with an 11-5 mark. They will take on the Diamond Jaxx Sunday in an afternoon double-header. The first game will begin at 2:15 and will be the continuation of Friday night’s suspended game. The second game of the twin bill will begin immediately following the conclusion of the first.
